Meanwhile... back in the Ekberg's Garden- Aug 28th venue

water shed study-  6x8 oil on linen
We are returning to the Ekberg's Garden (see Marions Garden blog entry below for more info. Check email for specific directions) to paint again since we loved it so much and only a few were able to paint there last time. They live on
Stinson (fairly high up on hill) in older house with large gardens- lots to paint from flowers- to structures- to statuary! Marion is a newer member with PAL and Steve is one of our GH Council members. Marion is happy to show off her studio with a view, there is good parking at end of driveway, and additional (across) street parking if we get really good turn out. Easy to find! Shady spots to settle- mild weather predicted. Pack a lunch and join us about 10 a.m. in the garden!

Also we are counting down the weeks until October when our  3rd annual art exhibition at The Lodge in Mallards Landing begins.  PAL's outdoor participants (Plein air group and Drawing you in group) come together to show their work from the summer's efforts. If you have not connected with Anne or Feather by now to confirm your participation in this show, please drop us an email to let us know ASAP so that we can connect with our sponsor and be sure you are well informed about the details.

Aug 21 PA venue: Super nature or supernatural?

long lake
Thursday Aug 21st we paint at Long Lake in Port Orchard.  Long Lake is off HWY 16 between Sedgewick and Mullenix- but the entrance is on the Sedgewick side...  might want to pack a sack lunch for this trip.
From Hwy 16- take the Sedgewick exit (if coming from Gig Harbor- turn right onto Sedgewick)
Follow Sedgewick 2.4 miles to Long Lake Road Southeast-
turn right  on Long Lake Rd- follow into park- my favorite spot is by the
boat launch/ fishing pier to left side of Park building.

Last time we were painting in this local an interesting phenomenon of a cloudy morning turned to  a light fog, suddenly became a darkness cloaked in heavy stillness before lifting abruptly and letting in a beautiful late morning  sunshine for the painters. It made for a pleasing light for my birchs on the bank of the lily pond. I believe tomorrows morning forecast begins with overcast.. lets see if the rest of the event is supernatural.

August 14th appreciating the local beauty- Gig Harborside

the light at which i may be seen painting
across the street view from the light
We are scheduled to work along Harborview Drive in Gig Harbor this week.  There are any number of interesting historical street front businesses along a 3 block section of Harborview.
heading down the road towards said light
cute church on right
There is the cute white church 1/2 block up from Harborview on Pioneer, the "bird wall" by Wild Birds Unlimited store, funky little Mostly Books, Skansie Netshed,  Fisherman's Memorial Statue by Jerisich Dock, Tides Tavern & the new Maritime pier. Further down harborview, there is the Ship to Shore complex with the waterfalls and access to the water near Netshed #9 Restaurant.  There are boats and kayaks and all kinds of maritime "stuff" alongside the road.

Where to Meet:
Meet  between 9:30 and 10am where Pioneer meets Harborview at the stop sign/blinking light- right in front of old brick 2 story building-Windemere Realty (used to be Harbor Inn). I'll be within sight of the light.
From Hwy 16 take either Olympic exit or Wollochet/Pioneer exit and turn toward downtown (North) and follow Soundview Dr (by Olympic) or Pioneer (by Wollochet) down hill to Harborview Drive.
Parking is allowed along Harborview, in the lot on Judson and along Judson St, or across the street from the Green Turtle beneath the trees.

If you paint on property of business- always check with owner first (they are usually pretty tickled to be "immortalized") and stay safe from traffic if you are in parking lot. Make sure to bring some business cards and show any artwork you are pleased with to owners.

Commencement of artists en plein air

This week the plein air group goes on a "road trip" to Commencement Bay. We will be working in Tacoma's Marine Park near the Les Davis Pier along Ruston Way. There is a restroom and snack shop by Les Davis pier, also good parking, shore and pier access, choice of  vistas, and the old fireboat to the east side, if you don't like bay and boats- they have nice flower baskets on lamp posts and entertaining birds. The fun starts at 10am, remember your sunscreen, perhaps a sack lunch  or consider a local resteraunt in Ruston (Antique Sandwich Co). See you then.
From Narrow's Bridge... take Jackson (1st) exit) turn left at top of ramp- follow across Freeway- this becomes Narrow's Drive- stay on Narrow's until you hit a signal- turn left at signal. It is still Narrow's Drive- but becomes North Vassault- follow Vassault (a long time!) to stop sign. Turn right at stop sign (North 51st Street) and follow 51st past signal (Pearl) and follow down to new roundabout- stay "straight" (ok 2nd exit ) and that becomes Ruston Way.
Just past the Lobster Shop is the Marine Park- do not go in first parking lot on shoreside- watch for second parking lot by Burger shop/Les Davis Pier- turn left into that parking lot and look for Anne and I in the vicinity!
