Wonderful day at Purdy

Today those of us who are in Plein Air painted at Purdy Spit and in the area. Some of us painted on the spit itself' some behind the gas station, and some behind Napa Auto Parts. I know we see this every day, but no one has the time to stop and really look. Today was an extreme neap tide, so the viewing was a bit different. I suspect we will have some very fine paintings from this area. Keep  your eyes out for more postings. Also take the oportunity to join the blog, if you haven't done so already.

Next stop for plein air... Purdy!

view of bay
Yes- some of us have been to Purdy Spit before but we have not had such a majorly Minus Tide in a long time. Anne plans to paint a vista of Burley lagoon from the Lagoon side.(Time non specified-call her if you can't find her.) Feather plans to be on site by 9:30 and park somewhere between Mossimo's and the gas station to investigate the near bridge side which faces Henderson Bay... look for lil red truck. Although there is word of possibile passing showers your facilitators will be on site in the morning rain or shine. If you have not been there before, please be very careful if you intend to paint on the spit area (like Anne)- the traffic can be fast and thick,  sometimes the pathways through rocks to beach are "challenging"- and it is also noisy from traffic.

purdy bridge

There is a good view of Purdy Bridge from behind the gas station near bridge-a much quieter and safer spot- and you had good view with out climbing down. Be aware of a possible camp or teen hangout under bridge if you are  painting solo. See ya Thursday!
Directions: From Hwy 16- take the Purdy exit -if coming from PT Orchard- if you want to join Anne on the spit- turn right at 2nd signal, cross bridge and go past most of narrow spit and CAREFULLY turn left onto boat launch area- go back the way you came to park alongside road (parking is only on the northbound side) -If you want to find Feather between Mossimo's and gas station look to pull in the parking lot (gas station on corner)at the 302 light that turns at the T... look for the lil' red truck. Recommended to parking uphill of restaurant (save primo spots for patrons!) Anne suggests meeting there for lunch about 1pm but Feather will not be in attendance.
If coming from Gig Harbor- from Purdy exit- sometimes traffic will allow you to turn left into the parking lot on waterside (left) BEFORE the signal by Purdy Bridge- if you wish to meet at Mossimos. Sometimes you need to use left turn signal and turn left towards bridge then left into parking- just BE CAREFUL and watch for traffic. If you can't turn in- drive across bridge and spit and do the left hand turn (carefully!) into boat launch area- and turn and go back across bridge and then turn right into parking- or park before then and join me! Usually traffic after 9am is light- especially now that school is out.

This week we are doing dueling opportunities at Chambers Bay. Feather will be facilitating an a.m. event at the North Meadow while Anne is gathering artist for the afternoon at the Environmental services building.

The morning event start time is 9:30 at the North Meadow. Access Points: Parking lot entrance is off Grandview drive west between the round abouts of 48th st west and Cirque drive. It is an area which houses a playground on one side and an expansive look over the sound and golf course. The paved path along the outlook connects the grandview trail  to the soundview trail and has a bathroom where the lot meets the trail.

For those looking for adventure you can hike the grandview trail (Located along the top of a 200-foot bluff, Grandview Trail offers sweeping views of the Chambers Bay golf course, Puget Sound and the surrounding islands)  or wind down the soundview wooded trail that ends up down toward the water.

Plein Air in Port Orchard this week 10 am

foot ferry gates
This week we venture out to the waterfront near the Port Orchard Foot Ferry which includes water views towards the Olympics, across to Bremmerton, and an elevated platform that will give you a great 360 view of all this or back toward the city. The usual waterfront models will be visible...ships, boats a few crusty buildings and some real nice flowers along the waterway walking path last time I was there in May. If water is not your thing or you want to get out of the weather, there is a cute "main street" just a block over with antique stores (Olde Central Antiques-think window display) and a few funky door/entries on the main drag.
While Anne will be absent this week, Feather will be lurking  along the waterfront somewhere between the ferry area and the platform- set up by 10 am. Look for the lady in white with the funky hat. Bring your PB&J sack lunch to the platform area  shortly after noon if you want to gather with your fellow artists for a chat over lunch. See you there!
